Why Grandpa Joe's House and not [Insert Your Address]?
We bought the house in the summer of 2012. Unbeknownst to us, we were buying it from the 92-year old grandfather of friends of ours from church. We only met him briefly, but have learned that he lived on his own right up until he moved out, he was still driving himself out to go berry-picking, he maintained an enormous garden (by city standards) and more or less was the coolest 92-year old man we'd ever met.
So what better way to honour the man who owned the house longer than anyone than by naming this blog after him?
And it's not [Insert Your Address] because--as much as we love our readers--our house is not ready to entertain your visits. And, y'know, privacy and all that....
Why do you think your thoughts merit a blog I should read?
I'm not sure I like your tone, self-interviewer! But seriously, it's with much trepidation that we started this, because of the blogs we read, well, we just don't feel like we measure up. But Rome wasn't built in a day, and even John & Sherry had to start somewhere... plus, Philip's an aspiring writer/author, and I have an English major, so the written word is kind of our thing. (We hope you agree!)
Where might I find you between the hours of 9 to 5?
If you're asking us what our day jobs are (hopefully not to tell us "don't quit them"), here's the deal: Philip is in Marketing at Nexom here in the city, and I am doing kitchen design at Urban Effects. I love it more than any job I've ever had and am so thankful for how it helped us to make our own kitchen dreams a reality! When does your book come out/HGTV show launch?
[Falls over laughing.] You must be new here. We admire those who can take a piece of wood and a bag of nails and turn it into an amazing piece of furniture or a shed or a working replica of a 1992 Plymouth Voyager, but that's not us. Well, not yet, but inspired by the DIY revolution, we're working on it!How did you meet?
Suffice it to say, we met at church in 2009, it took Philip a few months to build up the courage to ask me out, and we got married in August of 2011. The rest... well, we'll let you know when it hits the blog.
What are a few of your favourite things?
